Belize City was raveged by a storm; however the storm could not destroy the character of the of those who lived there and those folks eventually decided to create a new city in a safer location. A tale like this would make a good book…and it would be based on a true set of events of what happened about forty years ago in a place just south of Mexico. This is the reality the capital of Belize – Belmopan.

Belize City, the former capital city located along the coast, was wrecked by a category 5 storm in 1961 so a new capital city was created further inland and it was named Belmopan. Like many other people, I too wanted to see the city that was built as a result of a concerted effort of its people. When visiting Belmopan there are many Belmopan hotels to stay at – or, if you like, a bed and breakfast or nearby resort.

There are many interesting things to see in the Belmopan area such as the Mopan river, the Blue Hole and ancient caves used by the Mayan and fortunately there are hotels in Belmopan located by these places.

If you want to visit a place that is near the rain forest and the mountains then come to Belmopan since there are a wide variety of hotels right in the area – there is bound to be a Belmopan hotel for you. These Belmopan hotels specialize in high quality adventure travel for family, small groups, and free-spirited individuals. For those on a budget there are low-budget hotels or economical bread and breakfast that can meet your needs.

There are no 5 star hotels in the Belmpan area but there are still several places you can stay at with a high level of service. Most hotels offer many of the services that you would find in a hotel in the United States – telephone, television, Internet (at times wireless in your room), and many other services that contribute to a great stay.

When you come to Belize for a visit make sure to consider staying at a hotel in Belmopan during your  stay.
