Derma-Roller

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Plenty of people across the world suffer from strech marks. Both men and women will find them showing after periods of significant growth such as puberty. Women, of course, suffer with them post pregnancy.

They occur as our skin tries to maintain its expansion with the rate of growth in the muscles, bones or, in the case of pregnancy, baby. Invariably though, it fails to do so and tiny splits form in the second layer of skin, known as the Dermis. These tears show as red streaks initially and change over time to a silvery colour.

The stretch marks are actually areas of skin with lower levels of collagen. As the dermis is ripped apart during the growth phase, it does not manage to heal itself so that it appears like its former state. Of course, it is only a cosmetic issue as there is practically no medical downside to having these marks, the cosmetic concerns, however, are great. They make you feel self concious in front of people and don’t look very nice.

Removing stretch marks involves boosting the collagen levels within the Dermis layer of skin. This is best done by increasing your own physical natural ability to produce collagen as opposed to introducing it from external sources. The most common way of doing this is microneedling, using Dermarollers, which work as a type of collagen induction therapy}.

A dermaroller is a hand held device with many tiny needles that you roll over your skin to start the healing process and increase collagen and elastin production to naturally heal the skin.

The other additional benefit of using a derma roller , is the way in which it boosts the effectiveness of creams and oils, such as the commonly used bio oil. It gives these lotions the ideal conditions to permeate the upper levels of skin to a far greater degree providing a much improved result.

As with anything involving health and wellbeing, it is important to do your research and consult your doctor before beginning or using any product or treatment.
