Local Locksmiths or Nationwide Locksmiths?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

It is a proven fact that when people flick through the Yellow Pages, Thomson Local or BT phonebook – and are looking for a trade, they always tend to phone a local telephone number.

We’ve all done it – sat there, and ignored the 0800 numbers, the area codes out of town, or the advert that has a PO Box showing. And – why? Because we firmly believe that a local trades person will be able to quote you cheaper, instil more confidence in you because they wouldn’t want to meet you in the Supermarket queue knowing they’ve done a poor job….and ‘we can trust local folk’ can’t we?

Well…as the owner of a Locksmith Leeds, we are ‘yes’ a local company, but we also have 18 ‘local’ folk across the North that conduct the work on my behalf – and no, we don’t put the prices up because we use subcontractors, yes my head office is based probably no where near the job, but also we have a list a mile long of testimonials from people thanking us for our rapid response time, very reasonable pricing, and all in all efficient service.

My business concept might be slightly different but, in answer to the question on a lot of peoples lips = Local or Nationwide? The answer = ‘Doesn’t really matter as long as the prices are very reasonable and the response time is even better.

Important Distinctions Between Branding A Small Business And Branding A Large Business

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Most large businesses do not have one man or women who acts as being the voice for the company. Some businesses break this rule and use their CEOs as the company face, Steve Jobs of Apple computer would be one, and also Richard Branson of Virgin, as an example, but this is not the norm.

A smaller company’s image is more driven by its owners. Small establishments can make the most of this single point of contact by using the company owner or head consultant’s headshot as a part of the brand. By using a photo in such a manner can be a unique touch to provide a point of uniformity across all marketing materials.

Big companies typically will need to bring in a very large number of new customers to become successful to build a healthy bottom line and reinforce the company infrastructure. In the case of many businesses, the more clients, the more business and the more growth.

Smaller companies generally have a relatively smaller customer base to sell to Smaller businesses most likely are not equipped to fill large product orders or to have enough staff to deal with a large amount of requests for services. Many small companies offer goods over a local or regional level preventing the need for branding beyond a geographic area of business.

While it’s still important for small businesses to create a brand that appeals to its target audience, it can be possible to focus strategically and still get a lot of customers to keep and build their business.

Many larger businesses can often afford to make more emotionally driven branding pieces, for instance commercials or ads with no specific call to action or branding message. Smaller businesses need to ensure that each marketing piece is highly effective and delivers as much bang as possible for the marketing buck. Smaller businesses can add to the effectiveness of the marketing pieces by focusing each marketing piece on one specific offer. If you sell the entire company and solution system in one marketing piece, like a brochure, flyer, or webpage, you may not have the ability to be specific about any one product or service.

A call to action must always be built into every marketing piece produced. Tell readers of your marketing piece what they should do next. Should they go to your website for further information? Should they call you or register for a teleseminar? Should they join your subscriber list? Any time you tell them what to do next, it’s much more likely they’ll do it.

Larger corporations will have the budget and staff to produce extensive print and online campaigns. Smaller businesses will want to focus their marketing because they don’t have huge budgets and staff necessary to write and manage the creation of these materials or to distribute many pieces simultaneously. Create the quantity of marketing materials which you can actually get out to your potential customers without breaking the marketing budget.

Finally, big companies can take the time to teach their target market what their company does and what their logo and images mean. For small companies, instantly meaningful brand designs may be that much more valuable as a communication tool. They’ll carry part of your business’s story, even before your customer or prospect begins to read your information.

Brand marketing isn’t just for the Big company. Customers in every community are influenced to act on your message without regard to the size of your company. Observing what large companies do online, on the radio or on television will also work for small business on a much smaller scale.

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Bathroom Lighting
Correct choice of Bathroom lighting adds the finishing touch to a great bathroom design. However, careful consideration is needed when choosing your bathroom lighting as UK building regulations state that all bathroom lighting must be suitable to protect against the ingress of water.

IP44 Rating
All light fittings are given an IP rating, and bathroom lighting is no exception. The IP rating relates to how much protection a light fitting has against the influx of water (in all forms including drops and condensation). The specific IP rating you will need to have for your light fitting will depend on where in the bathroom you are fixing your bathroom lighting, but as a general rule you will need at least an IP44 rating. For some areas in a bathroom you may require higher level of IP rating such as in –shower and in-bath lighting.

As you would expect, bathroom mirror lights come in all shapes, sizes, designs and lamp types, and the home lighting online shop has a wide choice available online.
